Camera Safety Tips for 2020 | Crew Mama - Blog | There’s nothing worse than getting to a photoshoot and realizing that your camera or equipment is destroyed or damaged. It’s important to store the equipment well, travel with it carefully and be careful when you’re setting it up! We’ve put together a few tips together to help all of your shoots in 2020 go as smoothly as possible.

Keep your camera well-serviced

Prevention is the first step in keeping your camera equipment safe! Make a habit of regularly cleaning your camera frequently. This can save it from build up of dust or excess dirt. Make sure you’re using the proper cleaning equipment so your camera is safe! Also, be sure to get minor problems fixed right away even if they don’t seem like a big deal. Small problems will lead to larger ones if nothing is done to stop it!

Prepare for inclement weather

It’s no shock that water is one of the biggest threats your camera and equipment will face. There are a few small changes that will keep you prepared for whatever weather is thrown your way. For example, carry a plastic bag and a towel with you to your shoot. This way you can cover your camera completely and also wipe it down in case of any water that it may get.

Beware of your surroundings

While you can prepare for the weather conditions, you can’t prepare for those unpredictable people around you. When filming in a busy city, make sure your equipment close to your body at all times. Keeping your camera on a strap on your body will be a major help if anyone decides to attempt to steal your gear!

Store your equipment in a safe place

You may think that all the worry is gone once your shoot is wrapped up and your camera is inside. However, that’s not always the case. Avoid storing your camera in rooms with high humidity or in direct sunlight. The safest way to store your camera is in its bag in a cupboard, safe from dust and excess light!

Get the Proper Insurance

There’s no promising that your equipment won’t get damaged even if you’ve followed all the correct safety procedures. When you’ve done everything you can and all else fails, there’s only one thing protecting your gear: insurance. Carrying equipment across state lines can be a trek, so making sure you have the right coverage will save you a lot of hassle in the end. There’s so many fun shoots to look forward to in 2020!
