Finding the Perfect Location for Your Next Shoot | Crew Mama - Where are you filming your next production? No clue where? Crew Mama has created a couple of tips on finding the perfect location for your next shoot! We realize it can be extremely difficult to find the perfect location for your shoot. Also, it is a huge responsibility for a filmmaker to not disappoint with the location, so use these tips and you will impress everyone!
Ask yourself this question until you fully understand why this film is being made. If you do not understand why you are making the film, you will never feel like you found the perfect location. Once you have a clear purpose, brainstorm where you could see this film happening. Are you filming a sports film? Maybe you want to be on a baseball field and not in your parent’s basement. Just some food for thought!
In this situation, you want to choose looks! We are not saying break up with your girlfriend. We are saying go find the most beautiful looking area and make that a priority when choosing your location! Your viewers are not interested in a gross background, so do the opposite and make it aesthetically pleasing!
Time to plan your entire day around the sun! You are not in control of when the sun rises and sets, so you need to plan your shoot around the sun’s schedule. Picking the time of day for your shoot is so crucial. If you are shooting outside, make sure it is not when the sun is shining directly on the actor’s faces. Use the natural light to your advantage and create a schedule for your film!
As we mentioned earlier, you cannot control the sun and you definitely cannot control the rain. If you are filming outside, try to check the weather for that day if the shoot isn’t that far away. If it is too far away, come up with a back-up plan! Could you film it in the rain? If that is not doable, maybe schedule two days that you can film, so the timeline is not messed up. Keeping all of these tips in mind while finding the perfect location for your next shoot will be extremely helpful! Crew Mama uses these tips every time and always ends up pleased with the location.
