Shooting for the First Time at the Oscars | Crew Mama
Shooting for the First Time at the Oscars | Crew Mama - Did you watch the Oscars this past Sunday? Some of us at Crew Mama watched it, but others were actually there shooting it. Our cameramen had such a great time filming all the different people! One of our preferred vendors, Rafael Lopez, was there filming the hosts of TMT. Very cool, right? At least, we think so! So, do you know how to prepare yourself for shooting for the first time at the Oscars? Since the Oscars are such a huge event it can be very intimidating for a new cameraman to shoot there. Crew Mama has created a list of what to do and what not to do. Keep reading to find out!
What to do for Your First Time Shooting:
Practice those squats. How low can you go? You are going to need to go low low low… Kidding, well kind of. If you are tall, you really will need to be squatting in-order to get full body shots! This is very crucial because you cannot miss any part of the celebrities or host outfits.
Purchase or if you already have one, just bring your flash bracket. The pictures will most likely start early evening which means the lighting will be off. If you have your flash bracket, you will not have to worry about the lighting or quality of the pictures.
What Not to do at the Oscars:
Never Crop. Just do not do it. I know you want to crop those weird-looking feet out, so your picture can be fabulous, but then you will be missing their shoes. Let us be the ones to tell you and not your critics. Never crop when you are shooting at the Oscars!
Do not bring your tripod. The Oscars is such a crowded event with huge dresses, so that tripod is going to be knocked over before you know it. Yes, the camera you spent your life savings on is now broken. This is why you should not bring your tripod because the camera and tripod are going to be demolished by the end. Also, this will be a huge giveaway that it is your first time shooting at the Oscars.
Being able to be a cameraman at the Oscars is such an honor! Most importantly, just go have fun shooting for the first time at the Oscars! There will be a lot of people, so stay in your own tiny area and get ready to take thousands of pictures! We hope our advice helps. If you ever need a cameraman or production crew, give us a call!
